Can it be true? Is it really going to be September this week? For awhile I thought that the end of summer would never come; and yet, now that it is here and I thoroughly surprised by its arrival.
We arrived back Stateside after a wonderful February in Athens and March in Rome. April was busy with reacquainting ourselves with friends and family, transitioning to Eastern US timezone, and preparing for our the arrival of our nephew, Spencer. It was a whirlwind of activity, but nothing compared to May.
May was pretty unbelievable for us. We bought a house. I know – its confusing, because we travel most of the time. So buying a house seems like an odd thing to do.
But, on the other hand, it had been over two years since we had a place to call ‘home’ that contained our things, looked the way we wanted, and had the quirks & perks we were expecting. Living in other people’s space is fun and we still intend to travel quite a bit (less than than we did 2010, but still more than most people) – but the thought of having someplace to return ‘home’ to a few times a year is really nice as well.
So, on top of buying a house, trying to fill the house with furnishings, decorations, food, etc – I was also covering my sister’s maternity leave at my dad’s real estate office plus trying to visit with my sister to spend time with my niece and new nephew. It was busy to say the least.
June was filled with sunshine, swimming, painting, yardwork, and Sarah’s return to the office; which meant that life was to return to ‘normal’. But its a new normal that we haven’t quite worked out yet. Because after all, We have a house! We have a house? It’s still pretty new and pretty strange most days. Oh, and we bought a car too. Another Subaru… Watson is his name. And he is pretty fabulous (Boli likes him too).
July and August are a blur. There was a vacation to the beach in there plus Brett took a trip to New England and shared a Yankees Game with his dad and brother – wait, was that in June? Yikes, time flies!
Well, the house is coming along. It’s not “done” but when is it ever?
We have decided to take a trip this Fall. Although some of you heard that it was going to be to the South of France (because that was the plan for about 3 weeks) – we are actually spending the Fall in a cottage overlooking Cape Cod Bay out in Massachusetts. We are excited to say the least. It’s a short trip but it will be nice to get our travel back on. Plus its close to friends and family and the schedule is already filling up. If you are in the area and would like to get together, just let us know.
OH! And we also started a new blog detailing our domestic existence. We’ve been pretty hit and miss with both of them this summer… but we do promise to step it up this Fall. Check us out at http://domesticfork.com
