the journey of two travelers near and far on a series of foreign detours

Argentina Fall 2010

We spent the fall (or spring, depending on your hemisphere) of 2010 exploring Argentina. We arrived in September to a captivating Buenos Aires that was to become our base and we took in many of the sights: Recoleta Cemetery, San Telmo, Plaza de Mayo, Palermo, Plaza Francia, museums, and many more.

Another fantastic aspect about our time here in Argentina was that we took some vacation and explored a few different areas of this vast country: Mendoza and its beautiful wine country; the southern tip of Argentina: Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego; and the windy and beautiful El Calafate, El Chaltén and Patagonia. Some of our favorite memories include: touring wineries and riding bikes in Mendoza, hiking in Tierra del Fuego National Park, riding the Tren del Fin del Mundo (End of the World Train), snapping photos of the sea lions during a Beagle Channel boat tour, spotting icebergs on the surface of Lago Argentino, taking in the incredible size and beauty of Perito Moreno Glacier, watching the Patagonian flamingos in Laguna Nimez, hiking in Patagonia, waiting for the clouds to part around Mount Fitz Roy,  just to name a few. We had a wonderful time in Argentina and look forward to a return trip.
