The snow clung to the Vespas and the Fiats. And yes, that Fiat is really only a few inches taller than those motorcycles.
Our first week in Rome has been a bit chilly and included some snow (which no one was expecting, it has snowed only a handful of times in the last 40 years), but we have enjoyed getting re-acquainted with our old haunts. And the cold weather is certainly not keeping us off the streets of Rome, or out of the gelaterias. I’ve pulled out a group of eight of my favorite photos from our first week. Enjoy!

Flower boxes persevered through the cold and snow.
Campo de’ Fiori is surprisingly busy, probably because the schools and government offices are closed.
A view of Piazza della Rotonda, home of the Pantheon. The columns on the right are from the portico of the Pantheon.
One of the many Roman ‘nasoni’ (nose) fountains.
The Pantheon during a snow storm. If you look carefully at the bottom half of the photo, in the shadows you can see the white snow flakes.
Two more things:
1. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook (facebook.com/ForeignDetours) and on Twitter (@ForeignDetours) for more frequent updates and photos.
2. Our photography site, Roam Photo, has a series of photos running, one for each day we’re in Rome. It’s called the Roaming in Rome: 60 Days in Rome photo project. Today is the eighth day in the series. Head over to RoamPhoto.com to check it out.
Stay tuned for more photos and blog posts! Ciao!
